Claim your corner of the web.

A free website at a name you choose. Check whether that name is free before you have an account. The three cards below say when this size is enough, and when you should use WebsNZ instead.

.freehosting.nz

Will this do the job?

This is free hosting for one small site. It is the right place only if the list in the middle matches what you are building.

What you need

  • A free mailme.nz address. The site is tied to that account.
  • A name such as barryscars.freehosting.nz. An admin approves it, unless you have an invitation code.
  • Your own pages. Upload them, or install software such as WordPress. This hosts the site. It does not design it for you.

This will work

  • A small site, a club page, a portfolio, or a blog that fits in 1 GB, with 1 database of up to 100 MB.
  • You are happy for the address to end in freehosting.nz.
  • 1 SSH or SFTP login and 1 scheduled task are enough. PHP and free HTTPS are included, and traffic is not capped.
  • Email to yourname@freehosting.nz can land in your mailme inbox.

You need WebsNZ

  • You want your own domain, not a freehosting.nz name.
  • You need more than 1 GB, more than one site, or more than one database.
  • You need email on your own domain, or a shop that will outgrow this size.

WebsNZ is New Zealand hosting for a domain, a website, and email. Sign in there with the same mailme address and your freehosting.nz site is shown in that account too. It does not count toward the plan limit, so the free site and your paid hosting stay under one roof.
