1. Who we are
freehosting.nz is a collection of independent web tools built and hosted in New Zealand (the “hub” at www.freehosting.nz and related subdomains such as energy, budgeting, car data, your-own-site requests, wiki, git, and other tools we publish).
Contact: hello@freehosting.nz.
2. Relationship with mailme.nz
Many freehosting tools use mailme.nz for sign-in (OpenID Connect / SSO). Your mailme account and mailbox are primarily governed by the mailme.nz Privacy Policy. This page covers freehosting.nz websites and the data those tools collect in addition to mailme identity.
3. Information we collect
- Identity from sign-in — when you log in with mailme, we receive a user identifier, email address, and basic profile fields needed to create or link your freehosting account.
- Tool data you enter — for example power bills and postcodes in My Energy Tracker, budget transactions in My Money Tracker, site name requests on Get Your Own Site, forum posts, wiki edits, git repository content, notes, or other content you choose to store in a given app.
- Public contributions — content you deliberately make public (wiki articles, public repos, public dashboards you publish).
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, timestamps, and security logs for operation and abuse prevention.
- Cookies — essential session and security cookies for signed-in tools. We do not run third-party advertising networks on the hub.
4. How we use information
- to run the tools you use and save your progress
- to authenticate you and keep sessions secure
- to process site requests and approvals where relevant
- to produce anonymised or aggregated statistics (for example energy bill comparisons by area) where a tool offers that feature
- to prevent abuse and maintain the service
- to respond to support messages
We do not sell personal information. We do not use private tool data for third-party advertising.
5. Sharing
- Hosting and infrastructure in New Zealand used to run the sites.
- mailme.nz for authentication when you choose “Login with mailme”.
- Other users only when you post or publish something publicly, or share a resource intentionally.
- Legal requirements if we must disclose information by law.
6. Storage, security and location
We host services in New Zealand where practicable. We use HTTPS and normal server access controls. You should still use a strong unique password on mailme and avoid putting highly sensitive secrets into tools that are not designed as vaults unless that tool documents stronger controls.
7. Retention
We keep account and tool data while you use the service. If you stop using a tool or request deletion, we remove or de-identify personal data within a reasonable time, subject to backups, security logs, and legal needs. Public wiki or forum posts may remain visible unless removed through that product’s process or by request where feasible.
8. Your rights (NZ Privacy Act 2020)
You may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold, and you may ask us to delete account data where practical. Contact hello@freehosting.nz. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner: privacy.org.nz.
9. Children
These tools are not aimed at children under 16. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information inappropriately.
10. Changes
We may update this policy; the date at the top will change. Continued use of freehosting.nz after an update means you accept the revised policy for future use.
